Warhol's Chelsea Girls

Apparently the whole thing is on Youtube!

and another Nina Simone post

I'm writing a little paper about the queen so there'll probably be a few of these now. Every time I come across some footage of her live I feel I've found a new meaning to the word "performance" This one is in the Netherlands 1965. 40 minutes of a genius at work

Livin in the sunlight lovin in the moonlight havin a wonderful time

So wonderful to find these things. There's even a blog dedicated to his videos

LA LUPE

Here are two amazing TV performances by Cuban pop singer La Lupe. I don't know what she's saying but I'm sure her hand gestures are making atoms shake in a very unusual way. a beautiful video (that for some reason cannot be embedded) of the Shangri-Las singing "Shout". According to YouTube video description, "The twins' faces are obscured because it is a poor-quality Kinescope recording." I think it's a wonderful example of what I like to think about as "secret" or "accidental" composition. Maybe it's too romantic or naive but I'd like to believe the random narrative of this image.

And here's another lovely one, with proper gorgeous David Lynch-esque set and costume design:
